ZAWK 3472 - THE HEART OF THE DROP

We have entered the heart of the drop!
We have seen the sea of Love (Ashk).
We have skinned the skin of the Ego (I).
We have seen the “WE” of ONEness!
There is a Flame in one hand and Water in another hand!
[1]It is the suffering of Maryam [2] in fact!
A Gazelle has passed through our Desert!
We have seen the trace of its tears.

[1] Here the hand is the Mind. Flame and water are the pans of the scale of Tawheed. They are like “Nar (fire)” and “Nur (Divine Light)”, like the Hell (Jahannam) and Garden (Jannat), like the Denial and Testification.

GaribAN: Dear Beloved Mala, Gazelles and deer are very important animals in Tasawwuf. Haji Baktashi Wali (k.s) is portrayed with a gazelle under his one armpit and the lion under his other armpit. They represent the Rahimiyat-Jamaliyat and Rahmaniyat-Jalaliyat, compassion-innocence-sincerity (gazelle) and Spiritual Power (lion). Gazelle is a sensitive animal. It may cry. You can see an example of this in Bawa Muhaiyyaddeen (rh.a). In one of his books, it is recorded that Bawa was singing a song in Tamil and a deer appeared and came near him and listened to him and started to cry while listening. There are so many legends mentioned in tasawwufi stories related to Gazelles. Gazelle is also called "AHU" in Turkish Literature. As it is a timid animal escaping from the people and hunters and being followed by hunters, as it lives on its own in unknown places in the forest, as its tracks are followed, as it is beautiful, it is used in poetry as the symbol of the Beloved. Here the Beloved may be God, may be Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam or the friends of Allah (walis ). You see gazelle in the film Bab-i Aziz. The prince follows it. Because Lovers try to seek the traces of the Beloved in this world in everywhere. They keep trying to hunt the Beloved but they themselves fall in to trap and become hunted by the Beloved. In some famous sufis lives, Gazelles are seen as a warner, a messenger or a sign from God to wake the person up in this life. For instance Ibrahim Atham sees a deer-gazelle and the minute he is going to shoot an arrow to it, the gazelle speaks to him saying "Oh Ibrahim Atham, Did Allah create you for hunting me!" when Ibrahim Atham hears this, he prostrates to Allah. In Turkish Tasawwufi Literature, Kaygusuz Abdal follows a deer/gazelle and shoots an arrow to it and the deer escapes and comes in to a cottage in the mountain. When he enters in the cottage he finds Abdal Musa in the cottage and asks him to give him the wounded deer then Abdal Musa shows the bit of the arrow stuck on his own body then Kaygusuz Abdal becomes his disciple to learn Islam from him. There is a Professor in Gazi University who explains the deer and gazelles in Tasawwuf and I read some stuff from him and he explains in his research about an incident related to Rasulullah SAWS recorded in a tasawwufi book written in poetic style in 19th century. It is called the Legend of the Deer. While Rasulllah SAWS, Omar (r.a) and Ali (k.w) and some sahabas were sitting in the masjid, 40 horsemen come and they say "Show us that Muhammad who is against our religion and our gods and idols". Ali (k.w) , Omar (r.a) want to fight with them but Rasululah saws stops them. He says "I am Muhammad ". Do you want this deer to announce my prophethood to you? Untie it and it will do this he says. He puts his life as a ransom then the men untie the gazelle. The gazelle comes and bows in front of Rasulullah saws and pays respect to him and starts explaining that these men hunted her but she left her babies without milk. She asks for permission to go and feed them once and she promises to come back. Rasulullah says "go" to the gazelle and it goes and gives milk to its children and returns but on the way it falls in to a trap set by hunters. It cries out to Allah and explains the situation saying if It does not return, the Prophet's life will be in jeopardy. Angel Gabriel comes and saves it from the trap and it makes its way to Rasulullah SAWS. When the horsemen see this they release the Gazelle and enter Islam by believing in the Prophet. Dr.Munir Derman (k.s) mentions the Gazelles as the animals who respects the Attribute of Allah, AR-RAZZAQ (The provider of the Sustenence). He says give food to the gazelles during the winter as they don't keep food for the winter due to their trust in God in terms of providing their sustenance. He also portrays the friends of Allah as the free gazelles living in the forest. He says Rasulullah saws used not to eat the flesh of gazelles. He adds by saying he means "he wouldn't eat and this does not mean he did not eat it! When it was asked to Rasulullah saws why, he has not explained it and kept silent". In famous story of Layla and Majnun of Fudhuli, Majnun sees the beauty of Layla in a Gazelle. Here Jamaliyyat (Beauty of God) is important. Jamaliyyat surely is reflected from Rasulullah SAWS. What does Kul Ihvani mean by Gazelle here is a question to be answered by him. He says he sees its tracks as its tear drops in the desert. It might be representing the Beloved Rasulullah saws as you said or someone else there. Tears mentioned here is the tear of the Essence. I will ask him for you tomorrow inshaALLAH.
